Hello, we all like trade secrets don’t we so today I’m going to let you into a trade secret from the telesales industry. It’s a goodie too. Read on and I’ll explain.

The next time you get a phone call from a telesales person, try having a little game with them as this little piece of information I’m going to give you lets you into a trade secret. When you manage to say goodbye to the caller, say cheerio but then wait for them to hang up. Chances are they won’t because they’ve been trained not to.

You see when making calls to customers, never, never, never hang up your phone before them. Wait for them to hang up first.

It’s a small point but very irritating when you’re on the phone and before you’ve had a chance to hang up you hear a loud click. Now some people get the impression that the other caller can’t wait to get onto the next job or next call and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth about the person you’ve just spoken to.

So just try it next time you’re speaking to a customer or someone whose rapport you respect and wait until they put the phone down first, before you hang up.

Oh I almost forgot…that’s another reason for doing this. Your customer might have forgotten something and tries to get your attention. “Oh Bob…I just plain forgot…oh…he’s gone…whirrrrr”
