Cold calling is the way of approaching prospective clients, usually through phone, who were not expecting the phone call. Maybe most businessman hate it, unfortunately, it is the best way to build business fast. Learn how to love cold calling to make it work to your business’ advantage.

Not following the schedule. As part of your overall marketing plan, what you should do first is to prepare a specific number of calls per day, or per week. Aim to meet, or better, exceed that number.

You are calling at the wrong time of the day. Some clients are exhausted, at work, or simply not in the mood. It is better to call them early in the morning and to get in before their day gets started.

Being unpleasant to the person who answers the phone. You might lose the tesales chance you have! You’ll never know who might answer your calls, so you better be ALWAYS nice.

Talking to the wrong person. Basically, you’re just wasting your time if ever you’re talking to the wrong person who wants to buy your product. Keep in mind your specific target customers.

Trying to “get” something. The object of cold calling is not to “get” an order, an appointment or whatever. It is to tell them how you and your product help people like them.

Not keeping it short and detailed. You only have a few minutes to get your message across. Don’t waste their time, don’t waffle. Just make it short.

No script on hand. You need to know what you are going to tell your potential client, not certainly word for word but you can write it down and have it in front of you to guide you.

No product knowledge. Be sure to know everything about your product. You might lose a sale if you cannot answer a client’s question.

No preparation for performance. You have thirty seconds! Every pause is cutting into that time. Know your pitch perfectly but avoid not repeating it as if you were a talking parrot.

No follow up. If you think the client is entitled for a follow-up call, then call him. Of course, if you had an outright no, you might want to leave it a few weeks, but remember, the client you spoke to may not be in the mood, or their circumstances may have changed.

To avoid all cold calling mistakes, be able to plan everything, be rational, and pursue whatever guidelines given, and you will see the results. Remember, nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.
