UK Telesales News – Charity Calls ‘Not the Same’ as Telemarketing

telesales tips

I know this is not the usual type of post you’ll find here on Telesales Magic, however, I caught this piece of news from a  blog, and thought I would stick it up here on our own virtual ‘wall’ to see what people thought of it.

For those of you not in the UK, their version of the DNC list is the TPS list. And around 60% of UK households are listed on this ‘we don’t want to receive cold calls’ list.

Now though, Relationship Marketing’s (member of the Fundraising Standards Board and the Institute of Fundraising) chief, Hugh McGaw has now stated that the UK Government should re-look at its decision, which was made way back in 1998, to not allow charities the opportunity to call on these households, as they are not actually selling anything at all – instead, simply fundraising.

Mr McCaw said: “There are plenty of charities, particularly local charities such as hospices that could benefit from cold acquisition, especially in the current economic climate. “Yet the system cuts off this route to potential donors.”. His company has now launched a white paper was goes by the title of “Ring the Change” which discusses that fundraising calls should not have the same label as cold ‘telesales’ calls.

Any comments on this people? Do you feel that charitable foundations should have the right to get stuck into this telemarketing version of ‘pandora’s box’, of not-called-so-often ‘prospects’…? Answers on a postcard…….. Or, simply below this post!
